DOE tries to resolve privacy concerns over Smart Grid deployment.
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) recently released a report in response to the National Broadband Plan’s (NBP) recommendation to evaluate the overall communications needs of the Smart Grid, as well as to consider policies on consumer-data-accessibility when evaluating grants for Smart Grid applications. The report reveals it is concerned about data privacy issues surrounding the deployment of Smart Grid, citing “studies conducted by utilities and consumer advocates have consistently shown that privacy issues are of tremendous import to consumers of electricity”.
