Battelle and the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory have agreed to fund the Pacific Northwest Smart Grid Demonstration Project through an $89 million investment that matches $89 million contributed by the companies that make up the demonstration project, including the Bonneville Power Administration, QualityLogic, and Drummond Group. The project, valued at $178 million, is one of 16 regional smart grid demonstration awards announced by the Department of Energy in 2009 as part of the American Recovery Reinvestment Act. The project is designed to expand existing electric infrastructure and test new devices, software, and advanced analytical tools to improve the power grid’s reliability and performance. The project’s transactive control system enables transaction-based collaboration to occur over complex networks. Read more about this innovative regional effort.
