Using Clipper's 10MW "Britannia" turbine, the Hastings offshore wind project could generate up to 1.35GW of power. |
US manufacturer Clipper is to provide turbines for a bid to build an offshore wind farm in the English Channel, in Round Three of the UK's offshore wind programme. German wind developer WPD announced last week that it has submitted a bid to develop a 1.35GW project in the zone designated for offshore wind development off the coast of Sussex, near Hastings. The "Hastings Zone" is among nine zones designated by the Crown Estate, the owner of most of the UK seabed, as a good area for offshore wind farms to be developed in Round Three of its leasing programme (see this New Energy Focus story).
