IEC releases draft smart grid standardization roadmap
The International Electrotechnical Commission’s (IEC) Smart Grid Strategic Group (SG3) has released for comment its draft Smart Grid Standardization Roadmap setting out the standardization requirements for smart grids.

The 136 page draft roadmap also presents an inventory of existing (mostly IEC) standards, analyzes the gaps between actual standards and future requirements, and makes recommendations for evolution.
Saying that the IEC, as the only international standardization organization in the field of electrotechnical standardization, is ideally positioned to contribute to the development of smart grid and its beneficial effects on society as a whole, the starting point for the roadmap is the definition of the smart grid as “the concept of modernizing the electric grid.”
