Sensus Partners with Fieldforce Services to Build Smart Grid in Australia
Sensus is bringing its FlexNet Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) communications system and advanced metering systems (AMR) to Australia to build a smart grid in partnership with Fieldforce Services. Fieldforce, Australia’s leading provider of energy and water efficiency and conservation services, will be the first to offer the FlexNet network in Australia. Tim Ryerson, Fieldforce’s Executive General Manager says, “Partnering with Sensus furthers our mission of developing global alliances that allow us to continue expanding our range of conservation services for the environmental and utility sectors. We look forward to bringing Sensus technologies to our customers as Australia makes the Smart Grid a reality.”
Australia has a history of being a Smart Grid innovator. The government is investing up to $100 million to develop the Smart Grid, Smart City demonstration project, which intends to partner with the energy sector to link 9,500 homes to a smart grid from 2010 to 2013, marking Australia’s first commercial-scale Smart Grid. A recent report from the International Data Corporation (IDC) found that most Australian utilities were already updating their communications networks to prepare for smart metering rollouts. Utilities named smart metering and the management of data collected by those meters among their top priorities.
Sensus vice president of global business development, Mark Wells, complimented the Australian government and public for demonstrating “they are ready, willing and able to deploy Smart Grid technology today and we are excited to partner with Fieldforce to bring the Sensus FlexNet system to Australian utilities. As we pursue an aggressive growth strategy, partnering with recognized industry leaders such as Fieldforce will ultimately enable us to deliver on our commitment to the intelligent use and conservation of water and energy resources on a global scale.”
