Scottish technology firm Logica has won a five-year £2.4 million contract with National Grid company OnStream to provide new energy smart meters to 26,000 customers across the UK. It will provide communication data and pre-payment services. Logica's Instant Energy solution, developed at its Edinburgh base, will be used for the fall out. Both companies will collaborate with each other for delivering a number of smart metering projects to OnStream's customers - including smaller suppliers new to the market. Logica now supports over 75% of domestic smart meters installed in the UK. At present the company is supporting 15,000 new smart meter installations every month. According to Craig Boundy, chief executive, “Not only are smart meters essential to empower consumers to change their relationship with energy, they are integral to the creation of smart grids and enabling Britain to become a low carbon economy. "This contract with OnStream allows energy suppliers, including new entrants, to compete for consumers' business based on the capability of smart meters. This win consolidates our position at the heart of Britain's smart energy market."
